Accessibility statement

Version 2026-09-03.1 · Last updated 14 October 2026

Lightning TV wants viewers and match-night staff to be able to use the service regardless of technology or ability. We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, but the service has not yet completed an independent accessibility audit and we do not claim full conformance.

What we support

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Fixture lists use written Live now, Upcoming games and Past games headings to separate their sections. Live coverage comes first, upcoming fixtures run from the next game onwards and past fixtures show the most recent first. Staff fixture selectors use labelled groups where provided. The ordering applies before pagination, and section labels remain visible on later pages. These distinctions do not rely on colour alone.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Navigation, video, replay and purchase controls use decorative drawn icons in the site's colours rather than device emoji. Decorative icons are hidden from screen readers; visible text or the control's accessible label explains the action. Playback labels change with play, pause, mute and full-screen state. Status messages and feedback ratings retain written descriptions.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. New goal judge phone codes use five letters and numbers, excluding I, O, 0 and 1 to reduce reading errors. Codes can be entered in either letter case.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Goal judge controls identify the fixture, assigned rink end, current shooting team and that team's whole-game shot total. The buttons have visible keyboard focus and large touch targets. Written pending counts, save confirmations and persistent rejection messages distinguish queued entries from server-confirmed saves. A failed connection pauses recording and provides a labelled retry for the same entry. The changing clock is not announced on every refresh.

The away-roster staff panel provides labelled forms, keyboard-operated playback buttons, text status messages and a manual refresh link. Its form layout adapts to smaller screens. The native roster graphics used in broadcasts contain animation; the staff panel itself does not animate those graphics or autoplay warmup recordings in the browser.

The site is designed to support keyboard navigation, visible focus, meaningful headings and labels, text resizing, responsive layouts, reduced-motion preferences and common screen readers. Status information is presented in text as well as colour where practical.

The open-registration journey does not require an approval step. Account creation, email verification, pass review and checkout use labelled controls and written status or error messages. Verifying an email is clearly distinguished from obtaining a paid-game entitlement, so viewers are directed to an order, eligible discount redemption or support when access is still missing.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Password guidance is linked to the account fields so screen readers can announce it. Sign-in and personal-data downloads use the exact password you created, including spaces at its beginning or end.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Shot reviewers can choose a rink location using the arrow keys, moving one percentage point at a time or five while holding Shift, and confirm it with Enter or Space. The position has a visible keyboard marker and written coordinates. Pointer selection remains available. Staff audit tables can receive keyboard focus, alert text and actions use contrasting colours, and the staff menu is positioned below the sticky site header.

Live statistics refreshes preserve the selected view, expanded details, reading position and focus where the same control remains available. Order history and support cases include written statuses, references and help links so viewers can recover a journey after leaving its confirmation page.

The registration confirmation does not disclose whether an address already has an account; the next instructions are sent privately by email. The in-app support form explains its verified-email requirement, character limit and any temporary or open-case limit in text.

The discount-code form has an explicit label, text error and success messages, a removable applied state, a written original/discount/final price breakdown, the number of included games covered, and a distinct “Get stream access” or “Get pass access” action when the final price is zero. These controls remain keyboard-operable and do not rely on colour alone.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Staff player imports use labelled season, percentage and file controls. A row preview shows the readable code, recipient name, contact email, percentage, per-fixture limit and written validation result before a separate confirmation. Generated code endings exclude I, O, 0 and 1 to reduce reading errors. Completed imports provide a labelled CSV download for authorised staff. Actual assistive-technology behaviour still requires testing.

Pre-match countdowns use a server-synchronised visible timer, refresh at the 60-minute and 40-minute boundaries, and resynchronise when a hidden tab regains focus. The changing seconds are not announced every second to screen readers; the surrounding heading explains the target and the page refresh announces the newly available content.

Statistics and fan-message tools may be enabled or disabled per fixture. The core fixture, protected video, playback help, feedback and support paths remain available without requiring a visual map or fast-changing statistics.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Match statistics use labelled team comparisons with written values alongside the coloured bars. Summary, Box Score and Play-by-Play views, including the team sheets, support keyboard navigation and visible focus; their sections remain available as links when JavaScript is unavailable. Wide statistics tables can be scrolled using the keyboard. Live updates preserve the selected view during the current page visit without saving that choice in browser storage.

The match centre provides a prominent, keyboard-accessible Watch stream link near the top of the page, with a full-width touch target on phones. Video plays on a dedicated page; the match centre keeps scores and updates separate, with a visible countdown before video opens.

Known limitations

  • Some live broadcasts may not include captions, a transcript or audio description.
  • Fast-changing match statistics, visual rink maps and live engagement tools may not yet provide an equivalent experience for every assistive technology.
  • Third-party payment, video and casting interfaces have their own accessibility support and may behave differently from Lightning TV pages.
  • Google Cast and AirPlay depend on compatible receiver controls supplied by the browser and device; test feeds, early technical previews and single-use preview links remain browser-only; signed-in staff can use TV playback for an open live broadcast.
  • Older match-night administration screens may be harder to use at high zoom or on a narrow display.

We are working to identify and prioritise barriers as the service is tested. Publishing a known limitation does not mean we will leave it unresolved.

Ask for help or an alternative

Email [email protected] if you cannot access content or complete an action. Tell us the page or fixture, what you were trying to do, your browser or device, and any assistive technology used. Do not include passwords or payment-card details.

We will consider a reasonable alternative, such as providing information in another accessible format or helping you complete an account or support action. Response time can depend on the format and the proximity of a live fixture.

Feedback

Accessibility feedback is welcome at [email protected]. If you report a barrier, we will record enough information to investigate it and will handle your personal information under our Privacy notice.

For AirPlay, use the player’s TV button to prepare playback, then tap it again to choose your TV. The usual player controls remain available for play and pause. Retry keeps AirPlay selected; Watch on this device obtains fresh playback access for your phone after a disconnection. Google Cast is supported in compatible browsers on Android and computers, but not in iPhone or iPad browsers. Keep the sending device and TV on the same Wi-Fi network. TV playback help remains visible below the video when casting is unavailable.

On phones, device takeover messages expand to fit their text, with a full-width action underneath. Inactive video controls are hidden while the takeover prompt is shown.

On phones, playback errors show their full message above a large Retry button without overlapping video controls.

TV browser access

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. The TV pairing page provides a labelled QR image, a written phone link and confirmation code, expiry information, connection status, Check connection and Get a new code controls. The phone names the next broadcast covered by the account's passes, shows its fixture date and requires explicit confirmation, with written errors and a route to viewing-pass help. The TV player fills its browser window, preserves the picture's proportions and exposes a focused Start full screen button when browser permission requires user activation. Keep browser view and Disconnect / reconnect remain available. Remote arrows move among visible controls and OK activates the selected control. Unsupported-video and access-loss messages are written in text. Actual TV remote, zoom and assistive-technology behaviour still requires device testing.

Staff workspace and post-stream feedback

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. User management provides labelled search, account-status and email-verification filters, sorting and account links. Complimentary pass grants use a labelled pass selector or individual game checkboxes, a written reason, an optional expiry and text validation messages. Keyboard users can expand the staff-permissions section and scroll the account access table. With JavaScript enabled, a game filter keeps selected games visible and reports the selection count; all games remain selectable without JavaScript.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Staff account creation and email approval use labelled fields for purpose, email, initial password and reason, with written validation messages and a distinct staff-approved email status. These forms work without JavaScript. Signed-in account holders can change their password using labelled current-password and new-password fields without using a mailbox. Password guidance and errors are linked to their fields for assistive technology.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Staff fixture visibility uses a labelled Visible, Hidden or Scheduled release selector and a labelled release date in Europe/London time. Validation errors are shown in text. Hidden fixtures remain available to authorised staff and are removed from current viewer schedules and pass lists; historical purchase records remain available in account history.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Staff tools share labelled navigation, a mobile menu, fixture selection and explicit confirmations. Changing the fixture in view does not change the OCR source. The end-of-stream confirmation names the fixture and states that ending coverage is permanent.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Account deletion uses a separate confirmation page naming the account and explaining email reuse, permanent access removal and retained history. Staff enter the matching email or account ID, a reason and a labelled confirmation choice; field guidance and validation errors are connected to their controls. Cancel and Back to account remain available without submitting the form.

After coverage ends, the farewell page can be opened again and its content remains in normal page order. Each beta rating is a labelled group of keyboard-operable radio controls with a text alternative for its star value and a Skip choice. Comments are optional, errors are shown in text, and a separate link skips the whole survey. A statistics rating is omitted when that feature is disabled. Browser and receiver limitations still require real-device and assistive-technology testing.

Match tracking and coach reports

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Match operators can choose labelled Automatic or Manual controls. Manual recording saves the current game time without requiring a clock change, and the operator can complete faceoff details and the stoppage reason in either order. Common reasons use large buttons that save with one press; Add a new reason provides a labelled text field and save button. Tracking remains available without replay clips. Written save messages and errors accompany the controls.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Coach reports have a password form, a skip link, a labelled shots-on-goal comparison, and tables for both teams. Visual win-rate rings, period comparison bars and player bars retain written percentages and counts; information does not rely on colour alone. The rink's labelled, keyboard-accessible location links open detailed results, and the shared site typography, high-contrast panels and focus outlines apply throughout the report. Player, location and period links open their underlying results; Clear all filters returns to the match overview. On laptop and TV-sized screens the main faceoff panels sit alongside one another. Longer player lists support keyboard scrolling, and their scroll position is retained during updates. A Full screen control is available where the browser supports it; Exit full screen or Escape returns to the ordinary browser view. The report refreshes about every ten seconds while visible and preserves open results and keyboard focus where possible. A written message identifies delayed updates. Lock report ends access for that fixture in the browser. Contact support if the report or controls are difficult to use.

Commentator reports

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Commentator reports use the coach report's typography, contrast, skip link, full-screen controls and keyboard-accessible faceoff drilldowns. Talking points and statistical views retain written team names, values and explanations. Expandable player reference, scoring and faceoff sections use native keyboard-operable controls. Live refreshes preserve open sections, table scrolling and focus where the same control remains available. Pause updates holds figures for reading while access checks continue; Resume updates requests current figures, and Refresh report works without JavaScript. No pause preference is stored between visits. Written messages identify delayed refreshes and delayed league figures. The changing clock and talking-point list are not announced on every refresh. Layouts stack on smaller screens; wide tables can be scrolled using the keyboard.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. Commentator talking-point details provide written explanations. Source and scope opens reporting scope, source names and update times, while Browse → Data status opens source availability and any disagreement with the match scoreboard. Native expandable controls are keyboard-operable, and source tables support keyboard scrolling. Open disclosures and table positions are retained during refreshes. Data availability and delay do not rely on colour alone.

Draft, subject to legal and organisational approval. The commentator live desk shows at most two short talking-point headlines, without a duplicated score or clock. Large touch targets open one point at a time; its explanation and optional Source and scope control are separate from the overview. Browse the match opens labelled choices for the enabled player, event, team, faceoff and goaltender views. Live desk and parent-view links provide a return route. Player lists use touch cards with individual detail pages. Search and filter controls are expandable, and the event and player pages have eight and twelve records respectively. These links and forms work without JavaScript; live updating requires JavaScript. Keyboard focus outlines, labelled fields, native disclosures and written connection statuses remain available. Live refreshes preserve filter text, focus, caret position and open details where controls remain available. Pause updates holds the displayed context while access checks continue. The selected talking point remains selected; if it is no longer supported by current data, the page says so instead of substituting a different topic.
